I love a good spaghetti strap dress or top, but I’m not a huge fan of showing off my shoulders—I just feel a little too exposed sometimes.
Jackets and coats are a great solution, but they often cover up the beautiful design and details of the dress or top, which is the whole point, right? That’s what led me to design and create this cozy cropped sweater.
I wanted the sleeves to be long enough to cover my palms but leave my fingers free. It gives off the perfect “lazy day, cozy vibes,” like you just want to curl up with a warm cup of coffee. It feels like a gentle hug without hiding the outfit underneath.
Without further ado, here is the free crochet pattern for this piece. I hope you love it as much as I do!
Lazy Day Cropped Sweater
Materials:
3.5mm crochet hook
4-ply white Indophil yarn (or 4-ply cotton yarn)
Pattern:
ch 67
Round 1: ch 2, 1dc into the 3rd st, ch 2, skip 3 st, (2dc ch 2 2dc) in the same stitch, ch 2, [A] skip 3 stitches, 2dc, ch 2, skip 3 st, (2dc, ch 2, 2dc) in the same st, ch 2. Repeat from [A] five more times. sl st to the beginning chain.
Round 2-57 (or until preferred sleeve length): ch 2, 1dc, [A] ch 2, (2dc, ch 2, 2dc) in the ch 2 space, ch 2, 2dc. Repeat from [A] six times, sl st to the beginning chain.
From here, it will become a row and not a round as we make the body part. so no sl st to the beginning ch
Row 58: ch 2, 1dc [A] ch 2, (2dc, ch 2, 2dc) in the ch 2 space, ch 2, 2dc. Repeat from [A] six times, ch 9 then cut off yarn
Row 59: starting from the other end (the one that doesn’t have the chains), ch 11, 1 dc to the 3rd st, skip 3 st, (2dc, ch 2, 2dc) in the next st, skip 3 st [A] 2dc, ch 2, (2dc, ch 2, 2dc) in the ch 2 space, ch 2. Repeat from [A] 6 more times. 2dc, skip 3 st, (2dc, ch 2, dc) in the next st, ch 2, skip 3 st, 2dc, turn over.
Row 60-70: ch 2, 1dc, [A] ch 2, (2dc, ch 2, 2dc) in the ch 2 space, ch 2, 2dc. Repeat from [A] eight more times. turn over
Row 71-89: ch 2, 1dc, [A] ch 2, (2dc, ch 2, 2dc) in the ch 2 space, ch 2, 2dc. Repeat from [A] three times. Turn over
Rows 71-89 ends just about halfway of the body of the sweater. Do the same pattern on the other side as well. it should leave a (2dc, ch 2, 2dc) in the middle. and this would be where the head part is going to go.
Row 90: ch 2, 1dc, [A] ch 2, (2dc, ch 2, 2dc) in the ch 2 space, ch 2, 2dc. Repeat from [A] three times. ch 7, [B] 2dc, ch 2, (2dc, ch 2, 2dc) in the ch 2 space, ch 2, repeat from [B] three times. Turn over
Row 91-101: ch 2, 1dc, [A] ch 2, (2dc, ch 2, 2dc) in the ch 2 space, ch 2, 2dc. Repeat from [A] eight more times turn over
Row 102: ch 1, 10sc combining both ends.
Then from here it will go back to rounds instead of rows for the other sleeve.
Round 103-160 (or until preferred sleeve length): ch 2, 1dc, [A] ch 2, (2dc, ch 2, 2dc) in the ch 2 space, ch 2, 2dc. Repeat from [A] six times, sl st to the beginning chain.
Round 161: ch 1, 1sc, [A] ch 3, sc in the ch 2 space, ch 3, 2sc. Repeat from [A] six more times. sl st to the beginning chain. cut off.
And there you have it.
I hope you have as much fun making this as I did. If you have any questions while you’re working on the pattern, don’t hesitate to ask! I’d love to see what you create, so feel free to share your finished sweater with me.
Happy stitching!
